'Dik Zwart Award' for Best Oral Presentation and Best Poster
AITVM rewards young promising researchers with a prize of Euro 2.000 and Euro 1.000
AITVM wants to stimulate and reward starting researcher in tropical animal health or production to perform quality research and to present their results at the AITVM Conferences. Therefore the AITVM rewards once every 3 years 'high quality research' and 'excellent presentation' by two researchers with an award and a prize.
AITVM makes available an amount of Euro 3.000 to award two scientists with the prize
- Euro 2.000 for a paper of high quality which is presented orally in an excellent way
- Euro 1.000 for paper of high quality which is presented as a poster in an excellent way
The prize amount is intended to fund further international attention for the research by publication in highly rated international scientific journals or presentation at an international research discipline oriented conference.
- Candidates for the prize and their research should conform with the following criteria:
- The scientist is under 36 years of age, is a PhD student or has recently (not more then 3 years ago) obtained the PhD degree.
- The scientist is the main investigator and the 1st author.
- The research is in line with the mandate of AITVM and relevant to the theme of the AITVM Conference in Bangkok 2010.
- The research is 'original' and 'scientifically of high quality'.
- The written report for the proceedings of the AITVM conference is 'clear' and 'well structured' and 'conclusions are well substantiated'.
- Format of presentation:
i. The oral presentation will be judged for structure, presentation and animation
ii. The poster presentation will be judged for 'presentation', visibility, 'presenting the complete picture of the research conducted'.
What should you do to be considered for the Dik Zwart award?
Participants of the AITVM 2010 Conference in Bangkok who are presenting an oral presentation or poster at the conference and who fulfil the criteria mentioned above should, after submission of their full paper (and before 1 June), send an e-mail to aitvm@vet.uu.nl indicating their candidature for the 'Dik Zwart award', and provide the title of the oral presentation or poster, their name and the name and address of their institute.
Who was Dik Zwart?
The award is named after one of the founding fathers of the AITVM, the late Professor Dik Zwart of the Netherlands who has been, from the start of the activities AITVM in 1970, involved in bringing together animal health and animal science institutes in Europe, Africa and Asia with the aim to educate students and stimulate researchers in tropical animal health and production.
